Population Projections

In 2008, Treasury developed population projections for Tasmania and the 29 Local Government Areas as part of the work of the Demographic Change Advisory Council. In preparing these projections, all 29 local governments in Tasmania, regional bodies and State Government departments were consulted. The final projections were updated using ABS June 2007 LGA level population estimates and some assumptions were modified following stakeholder consultation.

The Tasmanian projections cover a period of 50 years, while the projections for Local Government Areas cover a period of 25 years.

The Department of Treasury and Finance has updated population projections for just Tasmania covering a period of 50 years. For more information, please see the population projections page on the Treasury website. Treasury is currently developing updated LGA population projections. It is expected that these will be publicly released in 2014. The 2008 population projections below are the latest projections available by LGA.
